About this Qualification
The purpose of the Functional Skills English Level 2 qualification is to prepare the learner for work, study and life. Learners who achieve this qualification will demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, listen and communicate in English. Learners will be able to apply these skills effectively to a range of purposes in the workplace and in real life situations.

Qualification Structure
This qualification is assessed via 2 external assessments and one controlled assessment.
The external assessments cover the following components:
• Reading – In this unit, learners will learn how to read and obtain information of varying length and detail from different sources and to use resources to support understanding, learners will learn how to read and obtain information of varying length and detail from different sources and to use resources to support understanding.
• Writing – In this unit, learners will learn how to write to communicate information, ideas and opinions clearly and effectively.
The controlled assessment covers the following component:
• Speaking, Listening and Communicating – In this unit, learners will learn how to engage in discussion in a variety of situations, making clear and effective contributions, learners will learn how to listen and respond to extended and detailed spoken language in a range of contexts and learners will learn how to speak to communicate detailed information, ideas and opinions clearly and appropriately.
